"He finally showed you."
She was way more than pretty. And elegant. And every inch a female. It would be entirely abnormal not to feel a slight envy of her womanhood. She was certainly alluring yet cute and anyone who looked like that should be condemned from society. But at that moment, Emily Wilson was standing in front of her with those genuinely friendly smile.
" I thought he'll never think of introducing you to us. He was perfectly content of keeping you for himself, isn't that right, Rob?" Emily nudged Rob on a gesture that only showed how close they were.
Rob just shook his head. A little smile was playing on his lips.
"It's my pleasure meeting you. I've been a fan for so long," she said.
"Oh,nonsense!" Emily said but before she could take offense on it the pretty gal added, "You're a friend now. It feels good to gain a female friend. Believe it or not, it doesn't always happen."
It felt very flattering for her to be considered as such. Though she couldn't believe it but she knew that Emily was at least telling her the truth. She had always been surrounded by the male species and was close friends with guys. It must work for her well being for one couldn't help but be jealous of her fate and her beauty.
The overwhelming feeling of being surrounded by people one only gets to see in movies was almost too surreal if those people didn't act so normally and crazily as they were.
Oh, how they let loose of themselves! She understood right then why celebrities love to throw private parties a lot. They could never totally enjoy under the public's eye. For some odd ways she was also guilty of before she met them, the public likes to think of them as the pretty, the glamorous, always perfect people that could never mess up, wasted or be as human as the rest of the world can. She then knew that it was what they hate the most on their celebrity status.
"So, this is the mystery girl."
She turned sharply to see a very tall guy with an awry grin on his face. He was too tall that she had to crane her neck to see him properly. She took an instant dislike on him. He was also nursing a glass of champagne like the rest of them. His long limbs swinging as he approach them. Emily greeted him with a kiss on the cheek. He turned to her after they exchanged pleasantries. Emily was grinning endearingly.
" I'll introduce myself before this guy here could protest. Matt."
He offered his hand to her and cocked his head a little. Yes, she disliked him but his height and her lack thereof couldn't be his fault anymore than hers. And he was such a hunk on his awkward stance that she couldn't keep her hatred. So, she grin back and took his hand.
"Pleased to meet you."
"No. 'Pleased' to meet you. Wherever he found you? I promise to frequent myself from where you came from." Matt wrapped an arm around her that surprised her a little but she didn't say anything to deter him. He was just being fun and there's no harm on it.
But it didn't last long as Rob's hand grabbed Matt's and playfully swatted it and replaced it with his'.
"It's more of finding each other. And you couldn't find anyone like her if you search the whole world."
Her heart leaped meters when she heard that. Rob was not very vocal about them and even she couldn't tell what they really were. That simple statement made her extremely happy. She felt like jumping right where they were. Instead, she looked up to him and gently smiled. In perfect sync of her feelings, he draw her closer as if protecting her. Matt grinned widely on the obvious gesture, obviously in the mood for teasing his friend. They were totally oblivious of the pained look that crossed Emily's face before she put up a convincingly happy tone.
"It seems that cupid is not on my side lately. Whatever I do, I just couldn't make my relationships work."
Matt put his discarded arm around Emily and said quite seriously, " Maybe you were working on the wrong ones."
Emily instantly lost her smile. "Maybe I am."
Emily and Matt exchanged knowing glances and there was a definite awkward silence after that. Something was wrong but she couldn't put her hands on it. She tried to look at Rob again but he refused to face her. Instead, he kept his eyes on his shoes. Did she miss something? Was Emily on a heartbreak?
She was about to ask them what was wrong when Matt broke the silence and changed the entire subject.
"Why don't I show you around? I'm sure Rob won't do that as he's terrified with people but it'll be a waste if we'll just stand here, aight?"
And before she could protest, Matt snatched her from Rob's arm and dragged her away. He was certainly kind of annoying but she felt more annoyed when Rob let her go without a fuss. Emily and Rob stood motionlessly when she looked back she couldn't understand why she felt afraid.
